A man operating as an online taxi driver has been arrested in Lahore after police allegedly found him using a fake government number plate on his private vehicle. The action was carried out by local police in the Gulberg area as part of ongoing efforts to curb the misuse of official registration plates.
According to police officials, the suspect was driving a privately owned car fitted with an illegal green government number plate, which is reserved exclusively for authorized government vehicles. Authorities said the vehicle was actively being used to provide online ride-hailing services when it was intercepted.
Police stated that displaying a fake government registration plate on a private vehicle is a serious violation of the law, as it can be used to misrepresent official status and potentially evade routine security checks. Following the inspection, officers took the driver into custody and seized the vehicle for further investigation.
Authorities are now examining how the fake number plate was obtained and whether the suspect acted alone or was connected to a wider network involved in producing or supplying counterfeit government registration plates. Legal proceedings have also been initiated against the accused under the relevant laws.
Law enforcement agencies have reiterated that the misuse of official government number plates undermines public trust and poses security concerns. They warned that strict action will continue against individuals found using forged or unauthorized registration plates on private vehicles.
The incident has drawn attention on social media, with many users calling for stricter enforcement against the illegal use of official vehicle registrations. Police have urged citizens to report suspicious vehicles displaying unauthorized government number plates to help prevent similar violations.
The latest arrest reflects Lahore Police’s continued crackdown on fraudulent practices involving vehicle registration and the misuse of government identity for personal or commercial purposes.
