A tragic incident in Lahore’s Baghbanpura area has claimed the life of an eight-year-old child after the roof of a school building collapsed during an allegedly illegal summer camp. The accident also left four other children injured, raising serious concerns about safety standards and unauthorized educational activities.

According to Rescue 1122, the roof caved in while renovation work was underway at the school. At the time of the incident, a summer camp was being held inside the building, with several children present despite the ongoing construction work.

Emergency response teams rushed to the scene soon after receiving reports of the collapse. Rescue personnel worked quickly to recover those trapped under the debris and shifted the injured children to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Despite rescue efforts, one child succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident.

Initial reports indicate that renovation activities were taking place while the premises remained occupied by children attending the summer camp. The presence of children inside the building during construction has sparked questions about whether proper safety protocols were followed before allowing educational activities to continue.

Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse, including whether the summer camp was operating without the required approvals and if negligence contributed to the tragedy. Officials are also likely to examine the structural condition of the building and determine whether renovation work complied with safety regulations.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of ensuring that schools and educational institutions maintain strict safety measures, particularly when construction or renovation projects are in progress. Experts have long emphasized that buildings undergoing structural work should remain inaccessible to students until all repairs are completed and certified as safe.

Parents and local residents have expressed concern over the incident, urging authorities to strengthen inspections of schools hosting summer camps and to take strict action against institutions that fail to comply with safety requirements. Ensuring secure learning environments remains essential to preventing similar tragedies in the future.

As investigations continue, officials are expected to release further details regarding the cause of the roof collapse and any legal action that may be taken against those found responsible.
