Pakistan, Egypt Strengthen Defence and Strategic Cooperation During High-Level Meetings

Pakistan and Egypt have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defence, security and broader strategic cooperation during a series of high-level engagements in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The renewed resolve follows the official visit of Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr Badr Ahmed Mohamed Abdelatty, who held extensive discussions with Pakistan’s civil and military leadership.

According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, Dr Abdelatty met Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in Rawalpindi, where the two leaders reviewed bilateral ties with a particular focus on defence collaboration, military training, security coordination and regional stability. Both sides emphasized their intent to enhance long-standing military-to-military relations as regional security challenges continue to evolve.

The Egyptian foreign minister conveyed warm greetings from his country’s leadership and reiterated Egypt’s desire to expand cooperation with Pakistan across all key sectors. The meeting underscored the importance of sustained high-level exchanges, especially as both nations navigate shifting geopolitical landscapes in the Middle East, South Asia and Africa.

The visit also coincided with growing economic and commercial dialogue between the two states. On Sunday, Dr Abdelatty met Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in Islamabad, where both sides agreed to boost private-sector partnerships and expand bilateral trade. The discussions covered the full spectrum of relations, including political, economic and defence cooperation, cultural ties, education and health.

A key outcome was the decision to identify 250 Pakistani businesses for enhanced visa facilitation in the first phase, with the number rising to 500 in the second phase. Both nations also agreed to establish a Pakistan-Egypt Business Council to institutionalize private-sector engagement and promote mutually beneficial partnerships.

Additionally, the two sides announced the creation of a Pakistan-Egypt Business Forum, set to convene in the second quarter of 2026 alongside a meeting of the Joint Ministerial Commission. Both countries also reaffirmed their commitment to activating all bilateral institutional mechanisms, including holding senior official-level meetings in early 2026.

As part of expanding educational cooperation, the Egyptian Foreign Minister announced that Al-Azhar University would double the number of scholarships offered to Pakistani students. Health collaboration also featured prominently, with discussions on Egypt’s support for Pakistan’s national Hepatitis C elimination efforts.

Regional developments were also reviewed, with Pakistan appreciating Egypt’s diplomatic and humanitarian role in Gaza. Both sides reiterated their principled support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The series of engagements strengthened the momentum in Pakistan-Egypt relations, reinforcing the shared vision of deepening defence ties, expanding economic cooperation and enhancing coordination on global and regional issues.
