Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) is facing calls for an investigation following serious allegations of overbilling, bribery, prolonged electricity outages and alleged misconduct in Chunian’s Allahabad area.
The matter was raised in the Punjab Assembly, where Treasury member Ahsan Raza Khan submitted an adjournment motion highlighting complaints reportedly faced by electricity consumers in the area.
Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan subsequently called for an investigation into the allegations involving LESCO and its operations in the affected locality.
The allegations have raised concerns about the quality of electricity services and the handling of consumer complaints in areas served by the power distribution company.
According to the concerns presented in the assembly, residents have allegedly faced unusually high electricity bills despite questions over their actual power consumption. Such complaints can place additional financial pressure on households and businesses already dealing with rising living costs.
The treasury member also raised allegations of bribery and misconduct, adding another dimension to the concerns surrounding LESCO’s services in Allahabad, Chunian.
Prolonged electricity outages were also highlighted during the proceedings. Frequent or extended power cuts can disrupt businesses, educational activities, household routines and essential services, particularly during periods of extreme weather.
The call for an investigation indicates that the allegations are being treated as an issue requiring further examination. A formal inquiry could help determine whether billing irregularities, service failures or misconduct occurred and whether any officials or systems were responsible.
LESCO is responsible for electricity distribution across Lahore and several surrounding areas in Punjab. As a major power distribution company, its billing practices, complaint-handling procedures and electricity supply remain important issues for millions of consumers.
Overbilling has remained a recurring concern among electricity consumers in Pakistan, with customers frequently seeking clarification when their bills appear significantly higher than expected. Accurate meter readings, transparent billing procedures and timely resolution of complaints are therefore important elements of consumer protection.
The allegations raised in the Punjab Assembly could also increase attention on how electricity distribution companies respond to complaints at the local level.
For residents of Allahabad and nearby areas, the outcome of any investigation could provide greater clarity regarding the complaints raised against LESCO. If irregularities are confirmed, appropriate action could follow under the relevant rules and procedures.
However, the allegations raised in the assembly remain subject to investigation, and responsibility should be established through evidence and the findings of the relevant authorities.
The development has once again brought electricity billing, power outages and consumer services into focus in Punjab, with questions now being raised over LESCO’s operations in Chunian’s Allahabad area.
