The government has confirmed that work is underway on a proposed new M-10 motorway that will provide a direct road connection between Karachi and Hyderabad, potentially creating a major addition to Sindh’s transport infrastructure.
The development was shared in the National Assembly during Question Hour, where the federal parliamentary secretary for communications provided an update on the proposed motorway project.
According to the government, feasibility work for the M-10 has already been completed. Authorities are now working toward establishing a direct motorway link between Karachi and Hyderabad that would bypass the existing route.
The proposed M-10 is expected to play an important role in improving connectivity between Sindh’s two major cities. Karachi is Pakistan’s largest commercial center, while Hyderabad serves as a key urban, industrial and agricultural hub in the province.
The government also clarified that the existing M-9 motorway will continue to operate as an expressway. This means the proposed M-10 would provide an additional route rather than simply replacing the existing Karachi-Hyderabad road connection.
The planned motorway could help improve traffic movement between Karachi and Hyderabad by providing another high-speed route for commuters, commercial vehicles and long-distance travelers. It could also support the movement of goods between Karachi’s ports and markets across Sindh and other parts of Pakistan.
The completion of the feasibility study marks an important step toward the development of the project. However, further planning, approvals, financing arrangements and construction phases will be required before the new motorway becomes operational.
The Karachi-Hyderabad corridor is one of Sindh’s most important transportation routes, with significant passenger and freight traffic traveling between the two cities. A new direct motorway could therefore have wider economic implications for businesses and communities located along the corridor.
The M-10 project may also contribute to the expansion of Sindh’s road network and improve access to major commercial and industrial areas. Better connectivity can reduce travel times, improve logistics and support economic activity when supported by effective planning and maintenance.
The government’s announcement has renewed attention on the future of road infrastructure in Sindh. With the feasibility stage completed, the next major focus will be on the estimated project cost, funding arrangements and the timeline for construction.
As authorities continue working on the proposed Karachi-Hyderabad motorway, the M-10 is expected to remain an important infrastructure project for Sindh. Its eventual completion could provide travelers and businesses with an alternative direct route while strengthening connectivity between the province’s major economic centers.
