The Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) has launched an ambitious development initiative aimed at transforming Islamabad’s Sectors F-14 and F-15 into modern, eco-friendly residential communities. The project is part of a broader effort to promote sustainable urban development while enhancing the quality of life for future residents.
The initiative is being implemented under the guidance of Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Works, Captain Muhammad Mahmood (Retd), and Director General FGEHA, Captain Zafar Iqbal (Retd). Officials say the plan focuses on creating environmentally responsible neighborhoods that balance urban growth with the preservation of natural resources.
As part of the project, prominent horticulture specialist and Capital Development Authority (CDA) Advisor Dr. Pervez Ahsan Khan met with FGEHA engineers and technical experts to discuss strategies for developing green infrastructure throughout the two sectors. The discussions focused on landscaping, plantation drives, recreational facilities, and measures to protect and enhance the existing natural environment.
Following the meeting, Dr. Khan conducted an on-site inspection of various locations within Sectors F-14 and F-15. During the visit, he reviewed the current landscape and proposed recommendations aimed at creating a sustainable and visually appealing residential environment. His suggestions included increasing green cover, introducing native plant species, establishing public parks, and designing open spaces that encourage community interaction.
Officials involved in the project believe that integrating green spaces into residential planning will help improve air quality, reduce urban heat effects, and contribute to a healthier living environment for residents. The proposed development also seeks to promote biodiversity by incorporating environmentally friendly landscaping practices.
The move reflects Islamabad’s growing emphasis on sustainable urban planning as the capital continues to expand. With increasing concerns over climate change, environmental degradation, and rapid urbanization, authorities are focusing on development models that prioritize ecological balance alongside infrastructure growth.
The planned transformation of F-14 and F-15 is expected to include modern residential facilities, improved public amenities, and well-maintained green areas designed to meet international standards of sustainable urban development. Authorities hope the project will serve as a model for future housing schemes across Pakistan.
Urban planning experts have long advocated for environmentally conscious development in major cities, arguing that green residential communities can significantly improve residents’ well-being while reducing the environmental footprint of expanding urban populations.
Once completed, the redevelopment of Islamabad’s F-14 and F-15 sectors is expected to provide residents with a modern living experience that combines contemporary infrastructure with extensive green spaces, recreational facilities, and sustainable environmental practices.
