Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially launched the “Roshan Pankha, Roshan Pakistan” program, an energy-efficiency initiative aimed at replacing 10 million old and inefficient ceiling fans with modern energy-saving models across the country.
The initiative is expected to significantly reduce household electricity consumption, with projected savings of up to Rs. 12,000 per fan in annual electricity costs. The program is part of the government’s broader strategy to lower power bills, reduce national energy demand, and ease pressure on the power sector.
The launch ceremony was attended by:
- Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Leghari
- Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik
- Managing Director NEECA Dr. Sardar Moazzam Humayun Khan
Officials briefed attendees on the scope and implementation framework of the program, highlighting its role in promoting energy conservation and supporting climate-friendly policies.
By replacing outdated fans with high-efficiency models, the government aims to:
- Reduce overall electricity consumption
- Lower capacity payments and system load
- Decrease carbon emissions
- Provide direct financial relief to consumers
The “Roshan Pankha” initiative aligns with Pakistan’s energy reform agenda and reflects a growing focus on demand-side management to address long-term power sector challenges.
