Pakistan Railways is set to resume the Shalimar Express service from August 14, restoring an important rail connection between Lahore and Karachi after disruptions caused by damage to railway infrastructure.
The Shalimar Express will operate through an adjusted route via Raiwind and Sahiwal. The revised arrangement comes as railway authorities continue to deal with damage to bridges caused by floodwaters, which has affected normal train operations.
Officials said the Faisalabad route will remain closed because railway bridges at Qila Sattar Shah and Masan Kallar were damaged by flooding. As a result, Pakistan Railways has opted for an alternative route to restore passenger connectivity between the country’s two major cities.
The resumption of the Shalimar Express is expected to provide passengers with another travel option between Lahore and Karachi. The service is particularly important for travelers who rely on railway transportation for long-distance journeys between Punjab and Sindh.
