Pakistan, France Sign Deal to Advance Minerals and Mining Cooperation

Pakistan and France have taken a significant step toward strengthening their partnership in the minerals and mining sector. Both countries have agreed to expand cooperation in investment, exploration, and sustainable resource development, marking a promising shift for Pakistan’s growing minerals economy.

The understanding was reached during a high-level webinar titled “Pakistan’s Minerals Economy: Gateway to Growth,” jointly hosted by the Government of Pakistan and the Embassy of France in Islamabad. The dialogue brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and global experts to explore new avenues for collaboration.

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ali Pervaiz Malik emphasized that Pakistan is positioned to become a key player in the global minerals supply chain. He highlighted the immense potential of mineral-rich regions such as the Chaghi belt in Balochistan, which holds some of the world’s most valuable reserves of copper, gold, and rare earth elements.

He noted that the acceleration of the global clean energy transition has dramatically increased the demand for minerals that power modern technologies. Copper, lithium, and rare earth elements are now essential for manufacturing electric vehicles, renewable energy systems, and advanced electronics. Pakistan’s naturally occurring reserves place it in a favourable position to support global industries that rely on these materials.

Officials from both nations discussed ways to streamline investment processes, enhance geological research, and introduce sustainable mining practices. The partnership aims to attract international investors while ensuring environmental responsibility and long-term economic growth.

France expressed strong interest in sharing modern mining technologies, technical expertise, and best practices that promote safer and more efficient extraction methods. Pakistani officials welcomed the support, noting that such cooperation could significantly improve productivity and transparency across the sector.

The webinar concluded with both sides acknowledging the strategic importance of the minerals economy in shaping Pakistan’s development trajectory. Strengthened collaboration with France is expected to create new opportunities for employment, revenue generation, and technological advancement, while contributing to global supply chains focused on clean energy and innovation.
