As Muharram approaches, the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration has unveiled a state-of-the-art signal-free mobile control unit, aimed at bolstering surveillance and rapid response across the city during religious processions.
Developed under the directive of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the mobile control room is equipped with advanced surveillance systems, satellite communication tools, and drone coordination capabilities, enabling uninterrupted functionality even in signal-restricted environments.
On Friday, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, paid a visit to the central Imambargah Asna Ashari in Sector G-6 to oversee ongoing security arrangements.
During the inspection, the officials received an extensive briefing from Inspector General of Police Ali Nasir Rizvi, who outlined the multi-layered security strategy. Over 1,700 law enforcement officers, including specialized traffic units, have been assigned to manage the city’s flow and protect the mourners. Sector-wise planning will be enforced with integrated surveillance grids and real-time data sharing between departments.
In a proactive move, the government has also activated the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency to monitor digital platforms for inciting content, ensuring no online disruptions affect on-ground peace.
Key processions, particularly those traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad on 9th Muharram and returning the following day, will be heavily guarded. Security protocols also include the deployment of volunteers, CCTV oversight, and patrol reinforcements.
The coordination meeting was attended by senior administration figures including Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, the Deputy Commissioner, DIGs, and the Chief Traffic Officer, all of whom pledged full support for a safe and respectful Muharram observance across Islamabad.
