WAPDA Security Force Bill 2026 Introduced in National Assembly

The federal government has introduced the WAPDA Security Force Bill 2026 in the National Assembly, aiming to establish a dedicated security force for the protection and regulation of installations managed by the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA).

The proposed legislation, formally titled “The WAPDA Security Force Bill, 2026,” was presented on Wednesday as part of efforts to strengthen the security framework surrounding critical water and power infrastructure across Pakistan.

The bill seeks to provide legal grounds for the constitution, organization, and regulation of a specialized force responsible for safeguarding WAPDA assets, including dams, hydropower projects, transmission systems, and other strategic facilities. Officials believe the move will help improve operational security and ensure uninterrupted management of key national infrastructure.

Pakistan’s growing energy and water demands have increased the importance of securing sensitive installations from potential threats, vandalism, and unauthorized access. The proposed WAPDA Security Force is expected to play a major role in maintaining safety at important projects linked to electricity generation and water management.

The introduction of the bill in the National Assembly marks the beginning of the parliamentary process, where lawmakers will review and debate its provisions before any final approval. Further discussions are expected regarding the structure, powers, jurisdiction, and operational responsibilities of the proposed force.

WAPDA remains one of Pakistan’s most significant public sector organizations, overseeing major hydropower and water resource projects that contribute heavily to the national economy. Security experts have often emphasized the need for specialized protection units dedicated to strategic infrastructure due to increasing security challenges faced by public institutions.

The proposed legislation also reflects the government’s broader focus on strengthening institutional security and improving the protection of national assets tied to energy production and water resources.

If passed, the WAPDA Security Force Bill 2026 could pave the way for a more organized and centralized security mechanism specifically designed for WAPDA operations throughout the country.
