Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has departed for Ashgabat on a two-day official visit to Turkmenistan, undertaking the trip at the invitation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedow. The visit comes at a significant diplomatic moment, coinciding with global commemorations for the International Year of Peace and Trust 2025, the International Day of Neutrality, and the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to participate in a high-level forum organized in Ashgabat to mark these milestones. The gathering brings together leaders and representatives from multiple countries, offering a platform to discuss collaborative approaches to regional stability, neutrality-based diplomacy and the promotion of peaceful international engagement.
During his stay, PM Shehbaz will hold bilateral meetings with President Serdar Berdimuhamedow. Their discussions are expected to cover a range of shared interests, including economic cooperation, energy connectivity, regional trade corridors and ongoing collaboration under various multilateral frameworks. These engagements aim to further strengthen longstanding ties between Pakistan and Turkmenistan.
The Prime Minister will also meet several world leaders attending the event, presenting Pakistan’s perspective on peace-driven diplomacy and opportunities for deeper cooperation across Central and South Asia. The visit is anticipated to highlight Pakistan’s commitment to constructive regional partnerships and its support for initiatives that promote trust, dialogue and stability.
A high-level delegation is accompanying PM Shehbaz on the visit. The team includes Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistants Tariq Fatemi and Talha Barki. Their presence reflects the multidimensional scope of the discussions expected in Ashgabat, particularly on matters related to energy, diplomacy and strategic communication.
The visit underscores Pakistan’s interest in enhancing cooperation with Turkmenistan, especially in areas that align with shared development objectives. It also reinforces Islamabad’s broader outreach to regional partners as the country continues to position itself for deeper economic and diplomatic engagement.
With high-level dialogues and participation in an international forum focused on peace, the trip is set to contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s role in fostering stable, cooperative regional relationships.
