Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing deeper cooperation in areas of mutual interest including economic development, bilateral trade, and regional peace, reported 24NewsHD TV.

The premier made these remarks during a meeting with Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad along with a high-level delegation.

Welcoming the Iranian parliamentary delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz underscored the importance of Pakistan-Iran relations, describing them as rooted in shared faith, culture, and history. He expressed his government’s resolve to further strengthen cooperation through dialogue and diplomacy. “Pakistan and Iran are committed to peaceful means for the resolution of disputes across the world,” he said.

Shehbaz Sharif extended warm greetings to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and President Masoud Pazeshkian, acknowledging their leadership in promoting unity and regional stability. He also highlighted the shared stance of both nations against state-sponsored terrorism, stressing that Pakistan and Iran have long supported each other in the face of external aggression.

“Both countries have been victims of terrorism and understand the importance of collective efforts for global peace and prosperity,” he said. “Pakistan and Iran stand together in their determination to promote the unity of the Muslim Ummah.”

During the meeting, Dr. Ghalibaf thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz for Pakistan’s continued support during difficult times, particularly during the recent Iran-Israel conflict. He noted that the solidarity shown by Pakistan during the 12-day war was deeply appreciated by the Iranian government and its people.

The Iranian speaker expressed optimism about the growing partnership between the two countries and reiterated Iran’s commitment to enhancing bilateral trade and economic cooperation. He also conveyed a message of goodwill from President Masoud Pazeshkian, thanking Pakistan for its warm hospitality and continued friendship.

Dr. Ghalibaf also praised the strong working relationship between the parliaments of both nations and extended special appreciation to Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for his efforts in promoting parliamentary diplomacy.

The meeting was attended by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination at the regional and international levels to advance the cause of peace, stability, and economic growth across the Muslim world.

The visit of the Iranian delegation is being viewed as a positive step in furthering Islamabad and Tehran’s diplomatic engagement, especially at a time when regional cooperation remains vital for addressing shared challenges in energy, security, and trade.
