At Karachi’s City Station, the air was thick with excitement. Families, travelers, and dignitaries gathered under fluttering green and white flags as the “Azadi Safari Train” prepared for its maiden Independence Day journey. The whistle sounded, and with a gentle lurch, the train began its symbolic voyage toward Tharparkar.

Carrying over 100 passengers, the Azadi Train is more than transportation—it’s a moving celebration of Pakistan’s history and identity. Passing through the lively streets of Hyderabad, the mango orchards of Mirpurkhas, and the historic forts of Umerkot, the journey offers a living showcase of Sindh’s cultural and geographic richness.

A Ceremony of Pride

The send-off was marked by a grand ceremony attended by Senior Provincial Minister Sharjeel Memon and Minister for Culture and Tourism Zulfiqar Ali Shah. A massive 78-pound cake was sliced, embodying the theme “Battle for Truth.” Music, patriotic songs, and laughter filled the station, as passengers boarded with a sense of pride and belonging.

A Message to the World

Minister Zulfiqar Ali Shah expressed that the Azadi Train is a symbol of national unity, aiming to bring together political leaders, civil society, showbiz personalities, and ordinary citizens. He hoped the train’s journey would echo across borders as a testament to Pakistan’s resilience and peaceful aspirations.

As the desert sun sets over Tharparkar on August 14, the train’s return to Karachi will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made for independence, and the ongoing commitment to safeguard the nation’s honour.
