In a remarkable demonstration of power and precision, Arshad Nadeem claimed gold for Pakistan at the Asian Athletics Championship in Gumi, South Korea. His final javelin throw of 86.40m earned him the top spot, just shy of the championship record of 86.72m.

Key Results of the Competition

Dramatic Turnaround for Nadeem

The competition began cautiously for Nadeem, with initial efforts of 75.64m and 76.80m. His third throw of 85.57m was a turning point, propelling him into the lead. The subsequent throws of 83.99m and 83.44m showed his consistency before he sealed his triumph with an 86.40m effort on the final attempt.

Fans rallied behind Nadeem, chanting “Dil Dil Pakistan” in the stadium as he delivered each throw.

Recognition of a Champion

Nadeem’s accomplishments extend beyond this event. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he astonished the global athletic community by launching the javelin past 90 meters, an achievement that ranks as the sixth-longest in history. This earned him the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz and celebratory parades upon his return to Pakistan.

In conversations after his latest victory, Nadeem revealed that while federal and provincial rewards were honoured, he is still waiting on private-sector commitments.

National Leaders React

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif issued congratulatory messages to Nadeem, commending his role in elevating Pakistan’s sporting profile and his consistent excellence on the international stage. Their statements also highlighted how Nadeem’s journey offers hope and inspiration to emerging athletes throughout the nation.
