Motorway commuters, take note! The National Highways and Motorways Police (NH&MP) have introduced new toll rates, increasing charges for vehicles without an M-Tag by 25%, effective February 1, 2025.
The M-Tag system is designed to facilitate faster toll processing and reduce congestion at motorway toll plazas.
Important Deadlines:
📅 January 31, 2025 – Final date to get an M-Tag for free.
📅 February 1, 2025 – Penalty of 25% extra toll begins.
How Does This Affect You?
- Any vehicle without an M-Tag will pay 25% more than the regular toll fee.
- A minimum surcharge of Rs50 will be applied.
Official Notification Confirms New Toll Structure
The National Highways Authority (NHA) has released an official directive, emphasizing that the 100% M-Tag requirement will be enforced across all motorways in Pakistan.
Statement from the NHA:
“Effective February 1, 2025, vehicles without an M-Tag or insufficient balance will incur an additional 25% surcharge, with a minimum extra charge of Rs50.”
Authorities urge all motorists to register their vehicles with an M-Tag before the deadline to avoid inconvenience.
Punjab Cracks Down on Vehicle Emissions with Stricter M-Tag Rules
The Punjab government has introduced tougher M-Tag registration rules, requiring vehicle owners to prove their cars meet environmental standards before they can drive on the motorways.
New Regulations Include:
✔ Mandatory vehicle fitness certificates for M-Tag approval.
✔ 30-year-old vehicles banned from motorways October to January each year.
Why These Changes?
With Lahore’s AQI at 190, exceeding WHO air quality standards by 22 times, authorities are tightening regulations to reduce smog levels in major cities.
These new policies aim to control pollution and improve driving conditions, ensuring cleaner air for everyone.
