Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif Introduces Solar Relief Initiative
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched an ambitious Free Solar Panel Scheme to alleviate the burden of rising electricity costs on low-income households. Announced during an inauguration ceremony, this scheme promises sustainable relief for 100,000 households across Punjab.
Step-by-Step Guide to Applying
Residents can easily apply for the CM Punjab Solar Panel Scheme starting today. Two convenient methods are available:
- Online Portal: Visit cmsolarscheme.punjab.gov.pk and fill in the required information.
- Via SMS: Send your electricity bill’s reference number and CNIC to 8800.
Applications will be verified using the provided details, and successful applicants will be selected through a computerized ballot to ensure fairness.
Solar Systems Tailored to Energy Needs
Under this initiative, solar systems are distributed based on monthly electricity usage:
- 550-watt systems: For households consuming up to 100 units per month.
- 1,100-watt systems: For households consuming up to 200 units per month.
This phased rollout will be completed within a year, providing clean energy access to thousands.
Added Features for Security and Sustainability
To prevent misuse, each solar panel and inverter will be linked to the consumer’s CNIC. This green initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 57,000 tons annually and significantly cut the federal government’s electricity subsidy burden.
Supporting Punjab’s Low-Income Consumers
The Chief Minister emphasized that this scheme complements the ongoing subsidy program, which has already benefited 7.3 million electricity users. A helpline will also be launched soon to assist applicants in navigating the process.
