In a significant move to empower the youth and strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has announced the establishment of e-Rozgar centres across the country. The initiative, unveiled during the National Youth Convention, aims to provide young Pakistanis with the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the digital economy.
The e-Rozgar centres will be established through public-private partnerships, providing accessible training and resources for the youth. Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the critical role that young people play in the nation’s progress, stating, “Our youth are Pakistan’s greatest asset. Their contributions are vital to the country’s development, and it is our responsibility to provide them with the tools they need to succeed.”
The minister highlighted the government’s commitment to youth empowerment, noting that a record budget of over Rs. 4 billion has been allocated for skills development this year. She encouraged the youth to take full advantage of the DigiSkills Program, which has already trained 4.5 million individuals across the country. “This program is a testament to our dedication to preparing the next generation for the challenges of the digital age,” she added.
Shaza Fatima also discussed the broader implications of digital transformation, emphasizing that IT is now integral to every sector, including the economy, security, and governance. “The future is digital, and we must ensure that our youth are at the forefront of this transformation,” she said.
In addition to the e-Rozgar centres, the minister announced the construction of an IT Park in Islamabad, a project supported by the Korean government. This state-of-the-art facility is expected to create numerous job opportunities and serve as a hub for innovation and technology. A similar IT Park is planned for Karachi, further expanding the government’s efforts to drive digitalization across the nation.
The minister also touched on the importance of responsible media use, particularly in the age of social media. She warned of the dangers of fake news, noting that misinformation can have far-reaching consequences for the country’s image and stability.
The launch of the e-Rozgar centres is a key component of the government’s strategy to harness the potential of Pakistan’s youth. By providing them with the necessary skills and opportunities, the government aims to position Pakistan as a leader in the global digital economy.
