Pakistan Navy Gets Powerful Boost with Launch of First Hangor-Class Submarine

Karachi, Pakistan – The Pakistan Navy took a major step forward in strengthening its maritime security capabilities with the launch of the first Hangor-class submarine in China. This advanced vessel marks a new chapter in the ever-growing defense partnership between Pakistan and China.

The launching ceremony, held at the Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group (WSIG) in Wuhan, China, was a momentous occasion. Admiral Naveed Ashraf, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), highlighted the importance of a secure maritime environment for regional stability. He emphasized that the Hangor-class submarines, equipped with cutting-edge technology, will be crucial in maintaining peace.

Pakistan and China Join Forces for Submarine Production

This project is a product of a previous agreement signed during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Pakistan. The agreement, with the China-Pakistan Combined Shipbuilding Corporation (CSOC), calls for the construction of eight Hangor-class submarines.

Four of these submarines will be built in China, while the remaining four will be manufactured in Pakistan at the Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd (KS&EW) through a technology transfer program. This collaboration will not only provide Pakistan with modern submarines but also boost its domestic shipbuilding industry.

Modern Submarines for Enhanced Defense

The Hangor-class submarines are designed with advanced weaponry and sensors, allowing them to effectively engage targets from a safe distance. This enhanced capability significantly strengthens Pakistan’s naval defense.

The launch ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials from both countries, including representatives from CSOC and WSIG. This event solidified the strong partnership between Pakistan and China, and paves the way for continued collaboration in the future.

Looking Ahead: A Brighter Future for Pakistan’s Navy

The addition of the Hangor-class submarines is a significant development for the Pakistan Navy. These powerful vessels, coupled with the recent induction of two Chinese-built frigates, demonstrate Pakistan’s commitment to a robust maritime defense system. This will undoubtedly contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.
