Karachi to Get Pakistan’s First Marble City as Sindh Government Pushes Industrial Growth

November 6, 2026

Karachi is set to become home to Pakistan’s first Marble City as the Sindh government moves forward with a major industrial development project aimed at attracting investment, strengthening local manufacturing and creating employment opportunities.

The initiative is expected to establish a dedicated industrial centre for marble and granite processing, allowing businesses to use modern machinery and technology to produce higher-quality products for domestic and international markets.

Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the project during the pre-launch ceremony of the Karachi Marble City Industrial Park. He highlighted the project’s potential to support industrial development and improve the country’s marble processing capabilities.

According to the minister, the proposed industrial park will facilitate the local processing of marble and granite sourced from Sindh and other parts of Pakistan. The introduction of modern equipment and advanced processing technologies is expected to improve production standards and increase the value of locally available natural resources.

Pakistan has considerable potential in the marble and granite industry, with deposits found in different regions of the country. However, the sector faces challenges related to outdated machinery, limited processing facilities and insufficient value addition.

A dedicated Marble City could help address some of these issues by providing businesses with an organized industrial environment and access to specialized facilities. It could also encourage investors to establish processing units and expand existing operations.

One of the major objectives of the project is to move beyond the traditional extraction and sale of raw marble. Processing natural stone locally into finished and semi-finished products can generate greater economic value and create opportunities for businesses involved in manufacturing, design and construction materials.

The project could also benefit industries that rely on marble and granite products, including construction, interior decoration, architecture and infrastructure development.

Employment generation is another important aspect of the proposed industrial park. The establishment of processing units and supporting businesses could create jobs for skilled workers, technicians, engineers, machinery operators and other professionals.

Small and medium-sized enterprises may also find new opportunities through the development of the industrial centre. Businesses involved in stone cutting, polishing, transportation, equipment maintenance and product distribution could benefit from increased industrial activity.

The initiative is also expected to attract investment by providing a dedicated location for companies interested in the marble and granite business. Improved processing facilities could help Pakistani manufacturers compete more effectively in international markets.

Exports of value-added marble products could provide additional opportunities for Pakistan to generate foreign exchange. However, achieving this objective will depend on the availability of modern technology, consistent product quality, competitive pricing and access to overseas buyers.

Karachi’s position as Pakistan’s major commercial and industrial centre also makes it an important location for such a development. The city’s established business networks and transport connections could support the movement of raw materials and finished products.

The Karachi Marble City Industrial Park represents an effort to strengthen Pakistan’s natural stone industry through local processing and industrial investment. Its long-term impact will depend on successful implementation, investor participation and the development of modern production facilities.

If developed as planned, the project could support employment, encourage industrial growth and help Pakistan increase the value of its marble and granite resources.
