The development of Rawalpindi Ring Road Phase-II has moved a step forward after the National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) completed the project’s preliminary feasibility study. The proposed phase is expected to strengthen regional connectivity by linking the Thalian Interchange with the Hakla Interchange along the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) route.
According to official sources, NESPAK has prepared three proposed alignments for the project. These route options, along with the consultancy’s technical recommendations, will be presented to the Punjab cabinet for review and final approval.
The proposed extension is considered a significant infrastructure initiative that aims to improve traffic flow, reduce travel time, and enhance connectivity between Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and surrounding areas. Once approved, the project will become an important addition to the region’s expanding road network.
The feasibility study evaluated multiple route options by considering engineering requirements, construction costs, land acquisition needs, environmental factors, and long-term transportation benefits. These assessments are intended to help policymakers select the alignment that delivers the greatest economic and logistical value.
Rawalpindi Ring Road Phase-II is expected to play a key role in supporting trade and transportation under the CPEC framework. By connecting Thalian Interchange with Hakla Interchange, the road will provide a more efficient route for commercial vehicles while easing congestion on existing highways and urban roads.
Infrastructure experts believe the project could also encourage industrial growth, attract private investment, and improve access to developing commercial zones along the proposed corridor. Better road connectivity is expected to support businesses, logistics operators, and commuters by creating faster and more reliable transport links.
The Punjab government is expected to review the proposed alignments before selecting the preferred route. After cabinet approval, the project can move toward detailed engineering design, land acquisition, and subsequent construction planning.
The Rawalpindi Ring Road project has been viewed as a strategic initiative to modernize the region’s transportation infrastructure.
