Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday visited the Shaheen Chowk Underpass project in Islamabad to personally review the pace and quality of construction, underscoring the government’s focus on easing traffic congestion in the federal capital.

During his visit, Mohsin Naqvi conducted a detailed on-site inspection and received a comprehensive briefing from the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) regarding the progress made so far. Officials informed him that around 90 percent of the project has been completed, with the underpass expected to be opened for traffic next week.

The interior minister expressed satisfaction over the progress and stated that the opening of the Shaheen Chowk Underpass would help restore smooth traffic flow on major highways connecting key areas of Islamabad. He noted that the project holds strategic importance due to its central location and is expected to significantly reduce daily congestion faced by commuters.

Mohsin Naqvi stressed that the project must be completed within the stipulated timeframe without compromising on construction standards. He directed the concerned departments to maintain momentum in the remaining work, particularly road surfacing and finishing, which are currently underway following the completion of the structural framework.

Highlighting the importance of urban aesthetics, the interior minister also instructed authorities to ensure modern landscaping and extensive tree plantation around the underpass. He emphasized that infrastructure development should go hand in hand with environmental considerations to enhance the overall outlook of the city.

Officials briefed him that while the structural work of the underpass has been finalized, finishing touches are being applied to ensure durability, safety, and smooth traffic movement once the project becomes operational.

Mohsin Naqvi reiterated that there would be zero tolerance for substandard work, directing engineers and contractors to adhere strictly to quality benchmarks. He said that projects of public importance must deliver long-term benefits and meet modern infrastructure standards.
