CM Maryam Nawaz Approves Establishment of Punjab Heritage Tourism Authority

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has given formal approval for the establishment of the Punjab Heritage Tourism Authority, a major step toward promoting cultural preservation and tourism development across the province.

According to reports from 24NewsHD, following the Chief Minister’s approval, the summary will now be forwarded to the provincial cabinet for final endorsement. Once approved, the new authority will operate as the central body responsible for managing, protecting, and promoting Punjab’s historical and cultural sites.

Under the approved structure, the Chief Minister will serve as the Chairperson of the authority, while the Senior Minister will assume the role of Vice Chairperson. This leadership framework aims to ensure top-level oversight and strategic direction for the province’s tourism and heritage initiatives.

Officials confirmed that the Tourism Department will now draft and send the proposed Punjab Heritage Tourism Authority Act to the Law Department for legal review. After vetting, the Act will be presented in the Punjab Assembly for formal approval.

The move is part of the Punjab government’s broader efforts to transform the province into a regional tourism hub by integrating heritage conservation with modern tourism management. The newly established authority will not only focus on preserving Punjab’s ancient landmarks but also work toward sustainable tourism practices that boost local economies.

The Punjab Heritage Tourism Authority is expected to collaborate with domestic and international stakeholders, including cultural institutions, investors, and private sector organizations, to revitalize key heritage sites. It will also oversee infrastructure upgrades, digital documentation, and guided heritage trails to attract both local and foreign tourists.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has repeatedly emphasized her vision for a progressive Punjab that highlights its cultural identity while creating employment opportunities through tourism. By establishing a dedicated authority, the provincial government aims to streamline policy execution, strengthen inter-departmental coordination, and promote Punjab’s rich legacy globally.

Once enacted, the new authority is expected to play a vital role in developing heritage-based tourism corridors, ensuring preservation of historical assets, and positioning Punjab as one of South Asia’s most vibrant cultural destinations.
