CDA Completes 51% of Kashmir Chowk Underpass Work in Just Over Two Weeks

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has completed 51% of construction work on the Kashmir Chowk Underpass in Islamabad in just over two weeks, marking significant progress on the Rs. 1.4 billion infrastructure project. The underpass is expected to be completed by the end of the first week of November, according to the project timeline.

The development is part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow and strengthen road connectivity in the federal capital. Once operational, the underpass is expected to help reduce congestion around Kashmir Chowk, a key traffic point serving commuters travelling between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the project on October 6, setting a completion deadline of 30 days. The pace of construction has drawn attention as more than half of the planned work has reportedly been completed within a relatively short period.

The Rs. 1.4 billion project is designed to address traffic-related challenges in one of the capital’s important road corridors. Heavy traffic volumes and the movement of commuters between the twin cities make efficient road infrastructure essential for smoother daily travel.

Kashmir Chowk serves as a significant junction for motorists moving through the Islamabad-Rawalpindi region. Traffic congestion in busy areas can lead to longer journey times, fuel wastage and inconvenience for residents, office workers and other road users.

The new underpass is intended to improve vehicle movement by providing a more efficient route through the junction. Better traffic management at this location could also support smoother connectivity for people travelling to workplaces, commercial areas and other parts of the twin cities.

The CDA’s reported progress of 51% indicates that construction has moved beyond the halfway mark. However, the remaining work will need to be completed within the announced schedule for the project to meet its expected opening timeline.

The targeted completion date, falling in the first week of November, would represent a rapid turnaround from the project’s inauguration in early October. The final stages will be important for completing the remaining construction activities and preparing the infrastructure for public use.

For Islamabad residents and daily commuters, the project could bring practical benefits if it delivers the anticipated improvements in traffic flow. Reduced delays at busy intersections can make routine journeys more predictable and help ease pressure on surrounding roads.

The Kashmir Chowk Underpass is among the infrastructure developments aimed at improving transportation within the capital. Its successful completion could contribute to more convenient travel between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, particularly for motorists who regularly use this route.

As the deadline approaches, commuters will be watching for further updates from the Capital Development Authority regarding construction progress and the opening of the underpass. The project’s impact will ultimately depend on its timely completion and how effectively it improves traffic movement at Kashmir Chowk.
