Islamabad Traffic Police Issue Safety Alert as Heavy Rain Batters Federal Capital

July 31, 2026

Heavy rainfall in Islamabad has prompted the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) to issue a public safety advisory, urging motorists to remain cautious while traveling across the federal capital. Authorities have advised commuters to avoid waterlogged roads, drive carefully, and cooperate with traffic officials to ensure public safety during the ongoing spell of rain.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, traffic authorities have confirmed that the city’s road network continues to operate smoothly, with officials actively monitoring key routes to prevent congestion and respond quickly to any emergencies.

According to an Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) official, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Kainat Azhar Khan is personally overseeing the traffic management operation across the capital. The close supervision aims to maintain uninterrupted traffic flow and ensure that emergency response teams remain prepared to address any rain-related incidents.

The advisory comes as persistent rainfall increases the risk of slippery roads, reduced visibility, and water accumulation in low-lying areas. Drivers have been encouraged to reduce speed, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain.

Traffic police also urged motorists not to attempt crossing flooded roads or underpasses where water levels may be unsafe. Officials warned that even shallow standing water can pose risks by reducing vehicle control or concealing road hazards.

Authorities emphasized the importance of following traffic instructions and remaining patient during peak travel hours. Traffic personnel have been deployed at major intersections and busy roadways to regulate vehicle movement and assist commuters wherever necessary.

The Islamabad Traffic Police reiterated that public cooperation plays a vital role in maintaining road safety during adverse weather. Citizens have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, stay updated on weather conditions, and report emergencies or traffic-related issues through the official ITP helpline.

Heavy rainfall often places additional pressure on urban infrastructure, making preventive measures essential for minimizing accidents and traffic disruptions. By following official guidelines, motorists can help ensure safer roads for everyone during the current weather conditions.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast additional rainfall in several parts of the country, including Islamabad, over the coming days. Residents are therefore encouraged to remain alert, monitor official weather updates, and take necessary precautions before heading out.

The Islamabad Traffic Police have assured the public that they will continue monitoring road conditions around the clock and will take all necessary measures to keep traffic moving safely throughout the ongoing rainy spell.
