Punjab Introduces Mandatory Green Property Certificate for Real Estate Transactions

April 25, 2026

The Punjab government has rolled out a new requirement for property buyers and sellers by making the Green Property Certificate mandatory for all real estate transactions across the province. This move is designed to enhance transparency and strengthen legal verification in the property sector.

According to the Punjab Land Records Authority, the certificate must now be obtained before completing any sale, purchase, or transfer of land or property. The initiative aims to minimize fraud, ensure accurate ownership records, and streamline the documentation process for all stakeholders involved.

Authorities have also announced a limited-time concessional fee of Rs. 900 for obtaining the certificate, encouraging early adoption among property owners and investors. This introductory pricing is expected to help facilitate a smoother transition as the new system is implemented province-wide.

The introduction of the Green Property Certificate marks a significant step toward digitization and modernization of land records in Punjab. By requiring an additional layer of verification, the government intends to reduce disputes and bring more confidence to real estate transactions.

Real estate experts believe this policy could reshape how property deals are conducted in the province. Buyers will benefit from increased security, while sellers will need to ensure their documentation is fully compliant before initiating transactions.

Citizens planning to engage in property dealings are advised to stay informed about the new requirement and complete the necessary steps in advance. As the system evolves, further updates and guidelines may be issued to improve efficiency and accessibility.
