The quarter-final stage of the World Junior Team Squash Championship proved to be the end of the road for Team Pakistan, who were outclassed by England in straight matches.
Played in Cairo, the fixture saw England assert early dominance. The first match featured Dylan Roberts defeating Pakistan’s Anas Ali Shah with little resistance. The English player secured a clean 3–0 sweep with scores of 11–7, 11–6, and 11–5.
The second match was slightly more competitive. Alexander Broadbridge faced off against Abdullah Nawaz, who gave a strong fight in the opening and closing games. But Broadbridge held his nerve, sealing the victory 14–12, 11–2, 11–9, and with it, England’s spot in the semi-finals.
The loss has officially knocked Pakistan out of title contention. But their campaign is not over yet. They will now shift focus to the classification play-offs for rankings five through eight, where they will next meet the Czech Republic.
Despite the quarter-final setback, Pakistan’s performance during the group stage featured promising young talent and strong matchplay. The upcoming placement games will be an opportunity for the team to end the tournament on a high note, with a top-five finish still within reach.
