Pakistan’s textile exports have seen a 5.37% increase in the initial two months of FY2024-25, with exports reaching $2.915 billion, compared to $2.766 billion during the same period last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The knitwear segment showed impressive growth, with exports increasing by 7.15% to $820.585 million. Cotton cloth exports also rose by 7.23%, totaling $322.654 million. Bed wear recorded a 7.61% increase, contributing $504.753 million to the total export value.
The ready-made garments sector was a standout performer, showing a 17.85% increase and bringing in $658.499 million.
Decline in Cotton Yarn Exports
However, the industry faced setbacks in the cotton yarn segment, where exports dropped by 45.21% to $110.588 million, down from $201.837 million. Additionally, raw cotton exports fell to zero during this period.
On a year-on-year basis, the textile sector recorded 12.99% growth in August 2024, with exports totaling $1.644 billion, compared to $1.455 billion in August 2023. The month-on-month growth from July to August 2024 showed a 29.36% increase.
Despite some challenges, these figures demonstrate the steady growth of Pakistan’s textile sector, with strong performances in key categories like knitwear and ready-made garments driving the industry forward.
